Moderator Code of Conduct
Effective Date: March 1, 2026 · Last Updated: March 30, 2026
Mix2um moderators play a vital role in shaping a healthy, welcoming, and creative community. This Code of Conduct outlines the expectations, responsibilities, and conduct standards for all individuals who serve as moderators on the platform. Becoming a moderator is a privilege, not a right — and moderators are expected to lead by example.
1. Who Are Moderators?
Moderators are trusted community members appointed by the Mix2um team to help uphold community standards, support new users, and manage content within specific community spaces or genre channels. Moderators act as representatives of Mix2um and are expected to behave accordingly at all times.
2. Core Principles
Fairness
Apply rules consistently and impartially, without favoritism toward friends or bias against any user or group.
Respect
Treat all users with dignity. Disagreement is fine; disrespect is not. Model the behavior you expect from the community.
Transparency
Communicate clearly when taking moderation actions. Where appropriate, explain the reasoning behind decisions.
Integrity
Act in the best interest of the community — not for personal gain, influence, or attention.
3. Moderator Responsibilities
Moderators are expected to:
- Actively monitor their assigned spaces for content that violates the Content Policy
- Remove or report violating content promptly and document the action taken
- Welcome new users and help them understand community norms
- Escalate serious violations (e.g., threats, illegal content) to the Mix2um team immediately
- Participate in moderator discussions and stay informed about policy updates
- Provide clear, respectful communication when issuing warnings or explanations to users
4. Prohibited Moderator Behavior
Moderators must never:
- Abuse moderation powers — removing content or banning users based on personal disagreements rather than policy violations
- Retaliate — taking action against users who have criticized them or filed complaints
- Discriminate — applying moderation unevenly based on a user's identity, viewpoint, or popularity
- Leak private information — sharing details from reports, internal channels, or user data with outsiders
- Impersonate Mix2um staff — claiming authority beyond your moderator role or misrepresenting official positions
- Promote personal interests — using your position to amplify your own or friends' content unfairly
5. Handling Conflicts of Interest
If you have a personal relationship — positive or negative — with a user whose content you are asked to moderate, you must recuse yourself and escalate the case to another moderator or the Mix2um team. Transparency in these situations protects both you and the community.
6. User Appeals and Complaints
Users have the right to appeal moderation decisions. When a user submits an appeal:
- A different moderator or a Mix2um staff member will review the case independently
- The original decision may be upheld, reversed, or modified
- Moderators should not interfere with or attempt to influence appeals about their own actions
Complaints about moderator conduct can be submitted to support@mix2um.com.
7. Communication Standards
When communicating with users — whether issuing a warning, explaining a removal, or welcoming newcomers — moderators must:
- Use clear, respectful, and professional language
- Avoid sarcasm, condescension, or passive aggression
- Reference the specific policy or rule that applies to the situation
- Remain calm and composed, even in confrontational interactions
8. Accountability and Review
Moderators are subject to periodic review by the Mix2um team. Consistent violations of this Code of Conduct may result in:
- A private warning and guidance from the Mix2um team
- Temporary suspension of moderator privileges
- Permanent removal of moderator status
In cases of severe misconduct — such as abuse, harassment, or data misuse — moderators may also face account termination and, where applicable, legal action.
9. Voluntary Role
Moderation at Mix2um is a voluntary role. You may step down at any time by notifying the Mix2um team. We appreciate your contribution to keeping the community a great place for music lovers.
